I loved that hat,
ridiculous considering it came
from a car boot sale
and could be infested
with anyone's nits
Not that I would ever wear it,
bright red, with pink flowers,
I ask you.
It was the story that came with it that interested me.
The last person to have worn it was put to death as a witch,
this according to the lady who sold it to me.
I know, I know but we have to have a little faith.
Her name was Rose Ambleby
and for many years had treated
the villagers with her potions,
brewed from the many plants and leaves
she found on moors and hillsides,
with a great deal of success.
The old village doctor
decided he had had enough of
this world and promptly left for the next.
And along came a cocky young
fellow to take his place.
He never stood a chance with the villagers
far too uppity by half.
thus increasing Rose's customers.
The young upstart didn't take kindly to this ,
shouting and raving,
denouncing Rose as a witch.
One day as I tried the hat for size,
a tingling began in my toes
spreading quickly though my whole body.
I felt that I could save the world.
and I just had to give it our Highest Award - Congratulations!!!
