I am just about surfacing again. Seem to have been swimming underwater for ages. I am not totally over my operation yet but have decided to chuck the painkillers down the drain and go cold turkey. I just haven't been able to write or think straight - lot of its due to lack of sleep. I seem to manage ok with daytime routines but sleep , not on your nelly. Just a couple of hours , then wide awake.....might get lucky and drift off for another hour....maybe. Anyway that will pass........thats not what I was about to write about.
Every had one of those days.........well for me it was "one of those days" yesterday.
It started off badly. Outside (winter here in OZ) the mist was heavy - couldn't see the end of the garden. So decided I would get on the computer. Plonked myself down on the computer chair and it completely collapsed on me almost to the ground but not quite. I got up and re-adjusted it but couldn't get it fully extended again.......so went to the bedroom and lugged back all the pillows - BIG MISTAKE.
Piled them up on the chair and sat down and promptly slid completely off and landed on the floor on my bum. Luckily for me didn't damage my recently operated on knee and leg.
Sat there saying a few expletives to myself and then realized i couldn't get up. I tried hanging on the desk edge but couldn't get enough leavage. No way was I going to try and kneel - completely out of the question . So sat there thinking "sod" . Jim was at work at least for another 6 hours. Doors are locked so no point ringing the neighbours , and in all possibility they would be out. So I commando dragged myself out of the room and down the hallway and luckily found the closet door open and dragged down my coat and a scarf. Swung my scarf around the door handle and hauled away......got halfway up and the doorknob came off...good one.
Cursed aloud and continued my crawl up the passage to the front room. After struggling for 15 minutes finally managed to get myself on the sofa and turn around to sitting position.
Just getting my breath back and the door bell went. I lurched to the door to find the waterboard man there . Said he had been reading the meter and it was going like the "clappers". Did a test and there was a leak. He said he had good news and bad news. RIGHT ! Good news was the leak was their side and we will not have to pay for the digging up and replacement pipe - bad news was they would have to take down part of the fence and bring in a machine to dig down.......OH BOY.
Well within the hour 5 men turned up and a digger. Prompt you think.....Mmmm only because of the hype that we are on water restrictions because of the long standing drought conditions and water is on restriction for garden use. I was praying they wouldn't completely mess up removing the front fence........its due for replacement but not quite yet. Well luckily they avoided damaging 30 year old camillias but the ground well it amazing what a digger can do......wondering what 5 men were going to do - ask a silly question. Yes stand around and gas bag for an hour leaving a gaping hole......then tap on the door hoping for a cuppa each. Well why not.....hoping a bit of bon hommie might get the job done quicker. Noooooo after the cuppa it was lunch time......found their way around the back and asked if ok to use the patio table and chairs. Well to be fair two hours later the pipe replaced and earth piled back.....upside down of course so the turf was at the bottom and the dirt at the top.........LORDY. So I went out and reversed it......heaven forbid getting them back again. Finished just in time to start preparing dinner..........funny enough I slept well last night.
Hugs
Sara
