October 2009
Beneath October Stars
Mother & I- 1968.
That wet stretch of black
has tied your hands, mother;
You, like swerving rain are
clothed in wave.
Summer, has left us facing strangers
and we smile our secret blue
until we reach where words are
heavy hands.
Violet breath on the remainders of a lifetime,
a rush of feather on the brow, a kiss.
I keep my head turned to the sun
when clouds are far between the
right, the wrong
is sorry for the childish grip
and skin believes the touch is real
now every thought is weight
within the stitch of hem upon
your circled skirt.
I see you now
in shallow rhythm and disaster..
my waiting swinging gate, that rusting hinge,
is frail remorse,
but,
I still beg you blind with my silence to sing
your song, beneath October stars,
so I can spy your shadow breathe you something more than
hope, beyond the dark.
