I came back to Eirin
the land that I love,
there was Seanine waiting,
He was the reason for my fleeing,
drinking, blackouts, forgotten dates
apologies gone at the whiff of a cork.
He was on the straight and narrow now,
nary a drop in over a year.
Life was nothing without me.
No flowers, too manly for that
but a wide grin from ear to ear
his arms open wide and a question
Of course I would,
'tis what I had been waiting for,
the reason for my return.
I did make it down the aisle,
following his coffin.
He never could keep a promise.
In memory of Maggie Cusack
The poetry world will never be the same
with her passing.
